Australian Prime Minister begins official Vietnam visit

HCMC – Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese today began his official Vietnam visit with a welcome ceremony hosted in Hanoi by his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Minh Chinh.
Albanese arrived in Hanoi yesterday morning, June 3. The visit is taking place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between Vietnam and Australia.
After the welcome ceremony, the two PMs held talks on bilateral ties and witnessed the signing ceremony of cooperation documents.
The Australian PM will also have separate meetings with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, President Vo Van Thuong and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.
Vietnam and Australia established diplomatic relations in February 1973, and upgraded them to the strategic partnership in March 2018.
Australia is now the seventh largest trade partner of Vietnam. Two-way trade between the two countries reached US$15.7 billion last year, up 26.7% against 2021.
Australia has 596 investment projects worth nearly US$2 billion in Vietnam.
Vietnam has 88 projects worth US$592 million in Australia, mainly in agriculture, forestry and fishery, wholesale and retail and processing.
