HCMC – Artificial Intelligence (AI) has changed the general working process, and technology advancements require continuously updated digital skills for employees, according to experts at a webinar on Vietnam’s information technology (IT) workforce held on June 30.

The event, titled “IT World of Work 2023 Outlook”, organized by ManpowerGroup Vietnam, gave insights into the trends that impact the IT industry and the implications for human resource management.

Dao Trung Thanh, an IT and Digital Transformation Strategy consultant, cited a report by McKinsey and Company as saying that over 50% of organizations surveyed in 2022 implemented AI in at least one business unit or function. This emphasizes the growing presence of AI in the workplace.

The webinar also emphasized the increasing focus on digital transformation by international businesses, with more than 80% intensifying their efforts post pandemic. This trend has positioned the Information Communication Technology (ICT) industry as one of the most promising sectors globally, as stated in ManpowerGroup’s report, “The New Human Age.”

Still, the explosion of digital technology, smart devices, and the application of robots in production and business poses challenges to the labor market with limited high-quality human resources like Vietnam, said Nguyen Thi Van Anh, manager of ManpowerGroup Vietnam’s Permanent Recruitment and HR Consulting Services.

Vietnam’s highly-skilled workers account for a mere 11% of the total labor force, lower than in Thailand (14.5%), Japan (25.5%), and Singapore (56%), according to ManpowerGroup’s Total Workforce Index.

Thus, companies need to develop long-term training strategies and launch skill enhancement programs, fortifying employee’s abilities to take on current and future jobs, she added.
