HCMC – Work started today, July 14, on two roads that connect the under-construction Long Thanh International Airport with the HCMC-Dau Giay Expressway and National Highway 51, according to the Airport Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).
The project, which is part of the phase 1 development of Long Thanh International Airport, is expected to be completed within two and a half years.
The two roads, totaling nearly eight kilometers in length, require VND2,600 billion. They are a crucial component for facilitating traffic flow between Long Thanh airport, the HCMC-Dau Giay Expressway, and National Highway 51.
Road No. 1 will have a total length of four kilometers and a width of 85 to 120 meters, with eight main lanes. It will start at the western gate of the airport, connect to the underway Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway and National Highway 51, and end at provincial road 25C.
Road No. 2, measuring 3.5 kilometers in length and having four lanes, will intersect with Road No. 1, run parallel to the Bien Hoa-Vung Tau Expressway, and end at the HCMC-Long Thanh-Dau Giay Expressway.
To execute the project, authorities in Long Thanh have reclaimed 130 hectares of land, including 110 hectares from 900 affected households. Dong Nai Province has cleared about 70% of land for the construction of Road No. 1, while land acquisition for Road No. 2 is still underway.
Once completed, these two roads will enhance connectivity between the upcoming Long Thanh International Airport and existing transportation routes to HCMC, Binh Duong, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, and other southern provinces.
Road No. 1 will serve as the main route for carrying construction equipment and machinery for the future development phases of the Long Thanh airport project.
ACV said that establishing a comprehensive transportation system to connect with Long Thanh airport is essential to ensure convenient access for passengers and smooth airport operations upon inauguration.
