Vietnamese Prime Minister welcomes Singaporean counterpart

HCMC – Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh extended a warm welcome in Hanoi this morning, August 28, to his Singaporean counterpart Lee Hsien Loong, reported the Vietnamese Government news website (chinhphu.vn).
Following the ceremony, the two government leaders held talks regarding strategies to catalyze a breakthrough in bilateral relations and further enhance the strategic partnership between the two Southeast Asian nations.
Subsequent to the talks, the two bore witness to the signing of new cooperation agreements.
PM Lee Hsien Loong is scheduled to have separate meetings with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, State President Vo Van Thuong and National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. He will also partake in several activities in Hanoi.
The current visit from August 27 to 29 is Lee’s fifth to Vietnam in his capacity as PM of Singapore. His visit aligns with the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of Vietnam-Singapore diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership between the two nations.
Vietnam and Singapore have consistently maintained positions within each other’s top 15 trading partners. At present, Singapore is Vietnam’s 12th largest trade partner while Vietnam holds the 15th position among Singapore’s key trade partners.
Two-way trade between the two countries totaled US$9.15 billion in 2022, an 11.6% increase compared to the previous year.
