Plastic awareness month kicked off in HCMC

HCMC – Rethink Plastic Vietnam, in collaboration with the Consul General of the Netherlands in HCMC, officially launched the Plastic Awareness Month 2023 program in HCMC on September 7.

The event was attended by Eline van der Veen, deputy consul general of the Netherlands in HCMC, and Ngo Nguyen Ngoc Thanh, vice head of the HCMC Environment Protection Agency.

Plastic Awareness Month 2023 is expected to bolster awareness and encourage individuals, organizations, and relevant agencies to take tangible steps toward reducing plastic pollution.

This month-long event’s objective includes showcasing innovative concepts, product solutions, policy advancements, and practical shifts that collectively contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable future.

Karen Smit, co-founder of Rethink Plastic Vietnam, said that innovation within the plastic sector can drive economic growth and competitiveness. She added that developing alternative materials can offer management solutions, create new business opportunities, generate employment, and attract investors.

As part of the program, Clean Up Events are scheduled to take place from September 16 to 17 in 10 cities and towns across Vietnam, including Hanoi, HCMC, Phu Quoc and Sapa.
