HCMC – Le Duc Tho, secretary of the Party Committee of Ben Tre Province, has been deprived of all Party posts by the Party Central Committee.

The Party Central Committee started a plenum in Hanoi today (October 2) to discuss and decide a range of important, complex and sensitive issues to realize the political goals of the 13th Party Central Committee between now and the end of the tenure.

As the eighth plenum started, the Party Central Committee decided to remove Le Duc Tho from all the Party posts he is holding, especially his Party secretary post in Ben Tre Province and his membership of the Party Central Committee.

Earlier, the Politburo concluded Le Duc Tho seriously violated the Party rules, the State laws, the regulations on what Party members are banned from doing and on Party members’ responsibility of acting as role models regarding transparency and declaration of assets and incomes.

Tho’s violations had been committed systematically for multiple years, causing serious consequences and public disgrace, which affected the reputation of the Party and of his own.

Therefore, the Politburo requested the Party Central Committee to take disciplinary action against him, hence the disciplinary measures taken today.

In July 2021, the Politburo chose Le Duc Tho, who was then board chairman of State-run commercial bank ViettinBank, to join the Executive and Standing committees of the Ben Tre Province Party Committee and take up the post of Party secretary of the province in the 2020-2025 tenure.
