HCMC – Local authorities have reported that 141 individuals fell ill with food poisoning shortly after consuming bread from Banh Mi Phuong, a renowned banh mi shop in Hoi An City in the central province of Quang Nam.

All cases received medical treatment at hospitals in Quang Nam Province and the neighboring city of Danang, with most patients currently in stable condition, according to the provincial Department of Health.

Among those affected, 33 were foreigners.

According to local authorities, Banh Mi Phuong sold 1,920 loaves of bread on September 11. The first signs of poisoning appeared around noon on the same day, with diners suffering symptoms such as high temperature, stomachache, and vomiting.

Officials from the Department of Health in Quang Nam Province have announced that the food samples have been sent to the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang City, Khanh Hoa Province, for testing. Results of these tests are expected to be available within the next 7-10 days.

In response to the incident, relevant authorities temporarily suspended Banh Mi Phuong on September 13 for a comprehensive inspection of its food safety conditions.
