HCMC – Four senior South Korean tourists died today, October 24, after the vintage UAZ vehicle they were traveling in along a shallow stream in a tourist village in Lam Dong Province was swept away by a flash flood, said local news reports.
Two men and two women killed in Cu Lan Village in Lac Duong District, around 25km from the center of Dalat City, were identified as Kim Sang Ok, 79; Kim Jang Ho, 76; Kim Jin Ok, 74; and Ko Meong Ja, 68.
The driver, who was saved by a tree, sustained minor injury.
Rescuers found the bodies of the four Koreans around 2km from the scene of the incident.
The flash flood happened even though it was not raining at the time and the stream was knee-deep.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has sent his condolences to the families of the deceased. He has also written to the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control, the ministers of Foreign Affairs, Public Security, and Culture-Sports-Tourism, and the chairman of Lam Dong Province, asking them to deal with the aftermath of the incident.
