HCMC – The government of Hanoi City has decided to conduct a thorough inspection of fire safety at all mini apartment buildings and boarding houses throughout the city after a fire killed 56 residents in a crammed building in Thanh Xuan District.

The inspection is scheduled to be carried out within a 45-day period, commencing from September 15 and concluding on October 30.

Local authorities will scrutinize mini apartments and boarding houses for compliance with land, urban, and construction regulations, in addition to assessing electrical safety, and fire prevention, and control measures.

The city will put fire-fighting teams on standby to promptly identify and address incidents as they occur. The relevant agencies will also provide guidance on outfitting buildings with automatic fire alarm systems, indoor fire hydrant systems, and fire extinguishers.

According to the decision, the inspection reports must be submitted to the Hanoi People’s Committee by November 2. Failure to carry out the inspections and meet the prescribed deadlines will result in accountability of the unit leaders.

This action follows a tragic fire that occurred in the mini apartment building on Khuong Ha Street in Thanh Xuan District, which resulted in the loss of 56 lives and left 37 others injured.
