Kon Tum shaken by magnitude 3.7 earthquake

HCMC – Kon Plong District in the Central Highlands province of Kon Tum was struck by a magnitude 3.7 earthquake this morning, May 16, according to the Institute of Geophysics.

The quake was reported at 11:31 a.m., at a depth of around 8.2 kilometers, with no disaster risk.

A total number of 10 quakes below magnitude 3.6 were reported to strike this area in May. The district has been hit by hundreds of weak and mild quakes of magnitudes between 2.4 and 4.7 since 2021.

Kon Plong was previously shaken by a magnitude 4.7 earthquake, the strongest in the past 100 years, on the afternoon of August 23, 2022.

The Institute of Geophysics has sent some staff to Kon Plong to establish additional monitoring stations to better monitor and take measures to cope with the quakes in the province.
