HCMC – Vietnam Railways has proposed the Ministry of Transport approve a VND180-billion second-phase project to upgrade Song Than railway station in the southern province of Binh Duong.

Sourced from the medium-term public investment capital, the funding will be allocated to construct customs, border patrol and security facilities, and renovate the An Binh cargo yard.

VNR has also suggested that Binh Duong set aside land for the development of a bonded warehouse to facilitate the implementation of an international freight line and offer customs clearance service at Song Than railway station.

The station currently has two cargo yards, Song Than and An Binh, both of which have been upgraded as part of the project to enhance and modernize the Nha Trang-Saigon and Hanoi-HCMC railway sections.

The proposed project includes the construction of two additional tracks at the An Binh cargo yard to accommodate cargo loading, the concreting of the entire cargo yard, and the creation of a designated area for container loading. Upon completion, Song Than railway station would be able to handle around 2.5 million tons of cargo annually.

Over the past five years, cargo throughput at Song Than railway station has increased 10% a year. In 2022, about 1.6 million tons of cargo was transported through the station.
