HCMC – Vietnam has expressed its intention to establish a consulate general in Chongqing and trade promotion offices in Sichuan and Hainan.

Nguyen Minh Vu, permanent deputy minister of foreign affairs and head of the Government-level negotiation team on the Vietnam-China Border and Territory, visited China and had working sessions in Beijing on August 9-10.

During his visit, Vu met with China’s Executive Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Ma Zhaoxu, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Nong Rong, and Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency Luo Zhaohui.

Both sides agreed to enhance coordination, foster close collaboration, and prepare for future high-level exchanges and interactions.

Vu highlighted the imperative for joint efforts between the two nations to bolster economic recovery. The primary focus is on streamlining customs clearance procedures and facilitating the export of Vietnamese agricultural products to the Chinese market.

Vu proposed establishing a consulate general in Chongqing and trade promotion offices in Chengdu, Sichuan and Haikou, Hainan.

Additionally, Vu recommended that both sides collaborate to devise strategies for long-term projects, such as the expansion of the second phase of the Thai Nguyen Iron and Steel Factory and the Ninh Binh and Ha Bac fertilizer plants.
