HCMC – Work on a bridge connecting HCMC’s two outlying districts, Nha Be and Can Gio, will begin in April 2025, said Tran Quang Lam, director of the HCMC Department of Transport.
The Can Gio Bridge project requires an estimated VND10 trillion, which would be funded by the State budget or by both public and private capital.
The four-lane bridge will be 3.4 kilometers long, starting at the intersection of Road 15B and Road No. 2 in Nha Be District and connecting to Rung Sac Road, nearly two kilometers south of the Binh Khanh ferry terminal in Binh Khanh Commune, Can Gio District.
The cable-stayed bridge will have one of its pillars shaped like a mangrove tree, which symbolizes the unique flora of Can Gio.
Once in place, the bridge will replace the busy Binh Khanh ferry service, thus meeting the increasing demand for travel between Nha Be and Can Gio districts.
The Department of Transport is currently working with local authorities to assess compensation costs and land clearance requirements for the project.
By the end of this year, the investment proposal is expected to be submitted to the HCMC People’s Council.
